I grew up in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Granada Hills High School. Shortly thereafter, I relocated to the San Francisco Bay area, where I spent most of my adult life.  I attended San Francisco State University and graduated with a BA in political science. While attending SF State, I was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.  I earned my JD from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco. While attending law school, I clerked for the Office of the Attorney General and the California Supreme Court. Hence, I possess honed writing skills. Thus, I am  is able to frame legal arguments in a manner that judges find persuasive.

I am licensed to practice law in California, Hawaii and the District of Columbia. I am an active member of the California Bar, and I have been practicing in California since I was admitted to this Bar in 1991.

I spent my first eight (8) years of practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. I represented clients in criminal and civil matters in counties throughout Northern California, including San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Jose counties. The civil portion of my practice included juvenile dependency, family law, personal bankruptcy and landlord-tenant. The primary focus of my practice was on family law and juvenile dependency.

Juvenile dependency and family law are related in that both practice areas involve issues regarding child custody. Family law cases involve private parties who are going through a divorce and are engaged in custody
disputes. Juvenile dependency matters involve government intervention. In the dependency arena, the children have been removed from the custody of their parents due to allegations of abuse and neglect.  Often times, the parents are incarcerated or drug addicted and unable to care for their children. The parents are put on a reunification plan, and are given county services to enable them to eventually reunite with their children. During this period, the children are placed with relatives or in foster care homes while their parents go through rehabilitation.  The decision where to place the children is crucial and is made at the initiation of the proceedings. It can often be determinative of whether they will ultimately reunite with their biological parents, or be adopted.

When I was practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area, local judges regularly appointed me to represent parties in juvenile dependency proceedings. I have represented parties from all sides of the spectrum. These include parents, legal guardians, foster-adopt parents, and children. Thus, I am well versed in this specialty, and I understand the issues from all perspectives.

My experience litigating juvenile dependency cases has translated well into my current family law practice. Because of my background, family law judges often appoint me as “minors counsel” for children whose parents are going through a divorce. Hence, my background in dependency law has given me a perspective on custody issues that other family law practitioners do not possess.

I returned to Southern California in May 1999. My practice is now located in downtown Los Angeles.  I have appeared on matters in counties throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Venture and San Bernardino counties. My current practice is focused on family law. My practice areas include divorce, paternity, support, child custody and visitation, domestic violence, domestic partners, and juvenile dependency.
